Floating-floor Installations
Floating type hardwood floors generally take the least amount of time to install as many are constructed in wide panel type as shown below. These are installed by glueing the tongue and groove, and are not mechanically fastened to the subfloor. More recent we have the click together type floors that require no glue.
Most all-floating types are constructed as an engineered floor. You can expect this application to be completed in one eight hour day for 400 square feet.
These types of hardwood floors can be installed over most existing ceramic tile and subfloors of questionable quality such as particle board and gypcrete or other types that are not recommended for nail or glue down hardwood floors. If in doubt follow all manufacturer specifications.
Additionally, floating floors are ideal for those that have multiple floor coverings that may be too troublesome to remove. Typically they are installed over a 1/8" foam padding and should not be confused with the thinner types many engineered flooring manufacturers use.
You might notice a 'hollow' feel under foot with these floor types but I've found this to be exaggerated by the popularity of engineered flooring. The difference can be attributed to the thicker construction of some of the better products manufactured by Parla.
